NavData Effective Dates

The following tables show the effective dates for NavData cycles. All dates are formatted YYYY-MMM-DD where YYYY is the year, MMM is the month of the year (JAN, FEB, MAR), and DD is the day of the month between 01 and 31.

NavData provides the latest navigational data for your flight planning software and may also carry the latest version of the program. NavData Updates are available for download up to 10 days prior to the effective date.

NOTE NavData for all units may not be available 10 days prior to the effective date. If data for your unit isn't available yet, please check back at regular intervals. All data files will be available by the effective date.

Am I still legal if I download and install an update before the NavData effective date?

A NavData update should only be used during the effective period for that NavData cycle. Jeppesen makes new NavData updates available for download up to 10 days prior to the effective date solely for the convenience of users to allow time to retrieve the new update. Unless you have a system that automatically loads the correct cycle based on the current date (Garmin GNS 480), the data should only be loaded to your GPS or MFD on the effective date.

When I download terminal charts, when may I use them?

Electronically updating terminal charts follow the same rules as updating terminal charts with a paper subscription. When a CD is received in the mail or an update is downloaded from the Internet, the charts with that update are effective immediately upon receipt. There are a few exceptions where Jeppesen issues a chart mid-cycle, and an effective date is needed on the chart. In this case, you should continue to use the previous chart until the effective date.

On the terminal chart heading, you will see the revision date and the effective date. If there is no effective date, you may use the chart upon receipt.

If I am unable to update my terminal charts immediately, how long are they available in my MFD system?

There is a 10-week grace period in which to update your terminal charts. After the grace period, the terminal charts no longer display.

The 10-week grace period allows usage when you are away from your home base and do not have access to the Internet or the current JeppView Electronic Chart Data CD. Use of terminal charts within the 10-week grace period should only be done with great caution. You must ensure that you are flying with current flight information, and comply with all FARs regarding pre-flight planning and required or recommended flight information. It is recommended that you use the Internet to update your chart data as soon as you possibly can.
